Enrollment up at Youngstown State, residence halls at capacity for fall 2016

Youngstown State University opened a new academic year today with increased enrollment, residence halls at capacity and a freshman class that is the strongest academically in the university’s history. YSU started the fall semester with 12,801 students, up 426 from 12,375 on the first day of classes last year, according to unofficial student counts. Youngstown Foundation grants total $1.2 million

Sixteen area organizations have been awarded grants totaling $967,228.00 by the Distribution Committee of The Youngstown Foundation. The grants, which includes Hine Memorial Fund recipients and Donor Advised fund distributions, were approved at the March 15 meeting and range from $3,200 to over $373,000. Additionally, over $300,000 was distributed to local non-profits through the Support Fund program. 50K Talmer grant to aid YNDC neighborhood work

In an effort to help the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) revitalize Youngstown neighborhoods, Talmer Bank and Trust will make a donation worth $50,000 to the organization. Valley Growth Ventures receives $3 million grant

The Ohio Third Frontier Commission met in Columbus in mid-April and awarded four Ohio-based investment funds a total of $10.348 million from the Pre-Seed and Seed Plus Capitalization Program. Jameson, Penn State announce nursing-education partnership

The Jameson Health System School of Nursing and Penn State Shenango have announced the formation of a partnership for nursing education that will offer area residents the opportunity to earn a diploma in nursing from Jameson and then a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Penn State Shenango in a seamless and timely manner.
