OH WOW to display winners in Warren Philharmonic’s student art competition

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology will display the winners from Warren Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Art in Music” contest Dec. 17 through Jan. 31. The works will be on display in the “WHO KNOWS” Exhibit Hall, located at 11 W. Federal St. in Youngstown.

An open house for the exhibit occurs from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. OH WOW will serve free refreshments. Admission to OH WOW! is $7 per person,, children 2 years and younger are free.

The WPO’s “Art in Music” Contest invited school children from throughout Trumbull County to create art centered around the orchestra’s instruments and music.  Twenty two contest winners were culled from Lakeview, North Road Middle, Baker Elementary, McGuffey and Bazetta Elementary schools.

OH WOW!’s Education Manager Kelly Bucci sees the connection between music and mathematics and how this project meets OH WOW!’s mission to develop learning skills and knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“There are lots of similarities between mathematics and music, beginning with our youngest visitors using their senses to explore sound, pitch and vibrations. As these young children grow, they continue their exploration and learn about patterns and number sequencing.”
