Jan. 15 program to cover sustainable-neighborhood strategies

Resettle Youngstown will host a series of programs on neighborhood revitalization and sustainability, beginning with “Resettling Youngstown With a Carbon Neutral Footprint” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown. First Unitarian is located at 1105 Elm St. across from Wick Park on Youngstown’s North Side.

This workshop, part of the newly minted Youngstown Free University series (no affiliation with YSU), will cover various sustainability topics. Other programs occur at 1 p.m. on Jan. 22, Feb. 12, and Feb. 19.

In general, sessions cover issues affecting Youngstown’s neighborhoods and offer environmental solutions that could be part of a comprehensive rehabilitation effort. Topics to be explored in the series include: whole house energy assessment, low-cost solar power, local food, sustainable gardening, urban farming, food preservation, building rehabilitation and deconstruction.

Persons interested in attending the programs can fill out an online registration form that covers areas of interest. Click on  http://bit.ly/xV4huG to complete. All sessions are free and open to the public.

  1. Sounds interesting… I hope you write about the workshops so those of us who cannot attend Sunday events due to the lack of WRTA transportation can read about it.
