7th annual ‘Men Who Cook’ set for April 20

The Catholic Charities Regional Agency will hold their seventh annual “Men Who Cook” fundraiser from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, April 20 at Antone’s Banquet Center in Boardman.

The event will feature prominent local men cooking their favorite dish, which attendees will sample. Prominent area women will serve as judges of the dishes. Proceeds from the event will raise money for Catholic Charities’ Emergency Financial Assistance Program, which provides financial aid to those facing a crisis.

Tickets are $50, which includes food, open bar and entry for a special door prize.

This year’s chefs include state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Canfield, D-33rd; United Way President Bob Hannon; Mahoning County Sheriff-elect Jerry Greene; the Rev. John Keehner; and Damon Maloney and Ryan Halicki of WYTV (Channel 33). Other guest chefs include Mahoning County Commissioner John McNally, Mahoning County Judge Eugene Donofrio and Mahoning County Treasurer Daniel Yemma.

Judges include U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Kay Woods; Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Sweeney; Kirstie Zontini of WYTV; Roxanne Sebest of WKBN/Fox; and Carol Holmes, wife of McDonald Mayor Glenn Holmes.

Major sponsors for this year’s event include the DeBartolo Corp. and Drs. James and Cynthia Kravec and family. Other sponsors include First Place Bank, Humility of Mary Health Partners, Drs. Thomas and Danielle Macabobby, KPMG, Home Savings and Loan, and Zabel’s.

Todd and Julie Sardich are c0-chairs of the event.

The grand prize is an all-expenses paid Atlantic City trip for two, including airfare, lodging and gift cards. Randy Spencer of Caesars Entertainment, Inc. and Harrington Hoppe & Mitchell donated the gift cards. Raffle tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at Catholic Charities or on the night of the event.
