Commercial-vehicle crash in Trumbull County closes eastbound I-80 for several hours

Troopers from the Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a one-vehicle crash, which closed Interstate 80 eastbound lanes for several hours in Hubbard Township. The crash occurred at 11:10 p.m. on May 29 on Interstate 80, .2 miles east of milepost 235 in Hubbard Township. There were no injuries.

Piotr J. Burek, 28, of Elmwood Park, Ill., was driving a 2007 Volvo 670 tractor-trailer combination. Burek was not injured.

Burek was eastbound on Interstate 80 when he traveled off of the south side of the road and overturned down an embankment. There were two aluminum coils, along with other miscellaneous freight that came off of the trailer. The coils and other items fell onto the roadway as well as down the embankment. As a result of the large debris field and cleanup efforts, the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed for three hours. Interstate 80 eastbound now has one lane open for traffic. According to a representative from the State Highway Patrol, as of 10:30 a.m. today, there was no set time frame for reopening the closed lane.

Burek was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control, a minor misdemeanor.
