Trained YSU business students and professional volunteers will offer free income tax preparation from Saturday, Feb 2 and at designated days and times until Saturday, April 13. Taxpayers should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2) from all employers, interest statements from banks (Forms 1099), a copy of last year’s tax return if available, and other relevant information about income and expenses.  Walk-ins are welcome. If these and other such questions intrigue you, the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor is sponsoring two workshops  today that may help provide the answers.  “Capturing Your Family’s Oral History,” presented by Donna DeBlasio, YSU professor of history, will help participants plan and record oral history stories of family members and friends. “Your Immigrant Ancestors,” presented by DeBlasio and Martha Pallante, YSU professors of history, will look at the ethnic neighborhoods that shaped the community and continue to do so decades later. 10 a.m. (DeBlasio), 1 p.m. (Pallante)$10.

Royal Family Kids Camp Fund-Raiser: Cornhole Tournament and Benefit for Underprivileged Children, Witherspoon Rooms, McKelvey Campus Center, Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa.; bethpears@comcast.net  or visit http://www.royalfamilykids.org. Westminster College’s Drinko Center for Experiential Learning is sponsoring a cornhole tournament to benefit the Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC) of Lawrence County. RFKC is a week-long camp for children from Lawrence County between the ages of 7-11 who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. During their week at the camp the children participated in fun-filled activities such as swimming, fishing, rock wall climbing and canoeing. Students and community members of any age are welcome to participate in the tournament. A gift basket raffle and refreshments will be provided. Teams will be placed in a division based on the age of participants. Mixed age teams are also welcome. Teams that place first through third will receive trophies. Discovering Buddhism – Module Two: How To Meditate, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., Youngstown; http://manjushristudygroup.blogspot.com. Participants will learn basic meditation techniques. It also includes the definition and purpose of meditation, how to sit properly, how to set up a meditation session, the different types of meditation techniques one may employ, and how to recognize and deal with obstacles to meditation. It is appropriate for beginners and does not assume that those who come for this course know anything at all about Buddhism. This course includes audio recordings, guided meditations, readings and discussion questions. Sessions occur on Saturday, March 2, 9, and 16. 3-5 p.m. $10 per session or $5 if you are a student or laid off.
