The Autism Society of Ohio will host its first-ever Community Autism & Disability Resource Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 in the main concourse of the Eastwood Mall in Niles.
The event will include organizational, product and information booths and educational workshops. Families affected by autism will have the opportunity to meet with a variety of service providers to gain information about autism, disability services and the organizations in the region that support them.
While booths will offer activities for children, there also will be a series of educational workshops for parents. They include: “Latest and greatest Apps” at 10 a.m. with Melissa Ustik of the SLP Mahoning County Educational Service Center; “Transition Planning” at 11 a.m. with Denise Malkovitz of State Support Team 5; and “Educational Options” at noon with Attorney Susan Gaetano Maruca, Senior Partner & COO, The Maruca Law Firm, LLC.
The Autism Society of Ohio provides information and referrals, family support, advocacy, professional development, awareness and resource development. The Columbus-based organization advocates for individuals with autism, their families and those who work with them in Ohio by working with state agencies and the General Assembly to improve and increase services. It also provides operational and programming support to its local chapters. Representatives say funds raised locally remain in the area to serve Mahoning Valley families.
