July 28: MVHS Archives closing to the public for move to History Center

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Archival Library will be closed to the public on Monday, July 28 in preparation to move the collection to the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center in downtown Youngstown. The projected date for the MVHS Archives to reopen at the History Center (325 West Federal St.) is early November 2014.

The move will provide patrons with a larger reference room and additional amenities geared toward making research easier and more efficient. Expanded facilities will allow for storage of the entire archival collection under one roof, allowing easier access to processed and unprocessed collections for patrons and staff.

The collection will be primarily unavailable to staff and researchers during the move, limiting the ability to answer reference questions and fulfill imaging requests. Research inquiries should be e-mailed to archives@mahoninghistory.org or to the mailing address: MVHS Archives, 648 Wick Ave., Youngstown, Ohio 44502.  Requests for on-site research will be taken on a case-by case-basis during the transition.
