Enjoy Summer 2014: Community fairs and festivals for August, September

Columbiana County Fair. Columbiana Fairgrounds, 225 Lee Ave., Lisbon; 330-424-5531.  Features animal, agricultural and horticultural exhibitions, food, entertainment, a tractor/truck pull, harness racing, children’s activities and a demolition derby. 8 a.m.-10 p.m., July 28-Aug. 3.

St. Patrick Parish Festival. 357 N. Main St., Hubbard; 330-534-1928. Features food, games, rides, live music.  and raffles. July 31-Aug. 3.

Greater Youngstown Italian Fest. Central Square in downtown Youngstown’ 330-501-3171 or youngstownitalianfest.org. Annual festival features Italian music, food and dancing, craft vendors, rides, auctions, raffles and pageants. 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Aug. 1 and 3 and  3 p.m.-11 p.m. , Aug. 2. Aug. 1-3. $4, children under 12 enter free.

Harvey S. Firestone Park Festival of the Arts.Firestone Park, 347 E. Park Ave., Columbiana; 330-482-2282. Features antiques, art, music, a farmers market, food and baked goods. 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Aug. 2. Free.

St. Vitus Parish Festival.  910 Mercer St., New Castle; 724-652-3422. Church festival features food, entertainment, games and raffles. 6-10 p.m., Aug. 6-9.

86th Annual Hungarian Day/Magyar Nap. Aut Mori Grotto Hall, 563 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown; 330-540-3327. Features Hungarian food, pastries, music and culture. 1-6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 10.

St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church Glendi. 4955 Glenwood Ave., Boardman; 330-788-5257. Greek food, music, games and entertainment. Call the church for dates and times.

Greater Alliance Carnation City Festival. Various locations in Alliance; http://www.carnationfestival.com. Honoring Alliance as the Carnation City, the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival is a week of parades, food and fun throughout the community. During festival week, there are more than 30 events. Aug. 7-17.

32nd Annual Warren Italian-American Heritage Festival. Courthouse Square, downtown Warren; 330-550-7877 and 330-507-3567. Features food, ethnic and cultural displays, exhibits, music, rides, bocce, and wine-tasting competitions. 6-11 p.m., Aug. 7; 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Aug. 8-10. Aug. 7-10. $3.

Mosquito Pirate Fest. Mosquito Lake State Park, state Route 305, Cortland; 330-637-2075. Children’s games, costume contest, boat parade, folk and pirate music, activities for families and adults. Call for more information. Aug. 8-10.

Revive: Music and Arts Festival. B&O Station Outdoor Stage, 530 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown; reviveyoungstown@gmail.com. Music festival headlined by Jones For Revival. Other acts/entertainment, includes Tropidelic, Hoss and the Juggernauts, plus disk jockeys, artists and vendors. 3 p.m.-4 a.m., Aug. 9. $10, 12 and under free.

9th Annual Mahoning Valley Slovak Fest. St. Matthias/Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. 915 Cornell St., Youngstown. Food, music, dancing, raffles and games. 11 a.m.- 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8.

Spanish Heritage Festival. East Federal Street, downtown Youngstown; Marita, 330-565-5506, Carlos: 330-398-0505, Vicky: 330-651-0941. Features music, food and entertainment.  4-11 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15; noon-11 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16; noon-8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17. Aug. 15-17.

Shaker Woods Festival. County Line Road off Route 7, Columbiana; 330-482-0214. Aug. 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 on weekends.

Lawrence County Fair. 464 Midway Road, New Castle, Pa; 724-856-3527. http://www.lawrencecountyfair.com. Fair at 9 a.m. Features livestock, agricultural exhibits, crafts, clothing, food and entertainment. The Crane Room will be in the restaurant this year. They will be serving their ribs and burgers. Aug. 10-16.

23rd Annual Brier Hill Italian Festival. Calvin and Victoria streets, Brier Hill, Youngstown; 330-286-3584. Street festival features authentic Italian food, music, dancing and concessions. Over the course of the festival, there will be a morra contest  and competitions for hot peppers and wine. The festival features music and dancing every night. 4 p.m.-midnight, Thursday, Aug. 14; 4 p.m.-midnight, Friday, Aug. 15; noon-midnight, Saturday, Aug. 16; noon-midnight, Sunday, Aug. 17. Aug. 14-17.

WaterFire Sharon. On the Shenango River, downtown Sharon, Pa.; 724-981-5882, extension 111. http://www.waterfiresharonpa.org. and info@waterfiresharonpa.org. More than 50 braziers anchored on the Shenango River will burn from dusk to about 11 p.m. The event will offer music, food and interactive arts experiences. Free. Saturday, Aug. 23.

Polish Heritage Celebration. Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Austintown; polishyoungstown.com. Features entertainment, folk music, and ethnic foods. 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24.

Canfield Fair. Canfield Fairgrounds, Canfield. Food, rides, vendors, entertainment and grandstand attractions. Reba McEntire is the grandstand entertainer on Aug. 31 and Justin Moore on Sept. 1. 8 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. Aug. 28-Sept. 1.

Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church Greek Festival. 401 12th St., Campbell. Annual event features food, games, rides, Greek dancers and an auction. 3-9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5; 3-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6; noon-8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7.

Lordstown Apple Cider Festival. 1824 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown; 330-824-2650. Annual event features a craft show, music, food, rides games and a 5K race. Sept. 19-21.
