The area’s first regional science and technology festival, “7 Days of STEM,” will occur from Monday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 21 at a number of venues in the Youngstown-Warren area.

The Youngstown Regional Science & Technology Festival is a seven-day celebration of STEM education and will be hosted at numerous venues, including participating institutions, organizations and businesses. A full schedule of events is available at OHWOWKids.org/7-days-of-stem.

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology is presenting the festival with assistance from participating partners and sponsors. The Center applied and received a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s Program in Public Understanding of Science and Technology.

“Youngstown was one of 11 sites selected by the Sloan Foundation,” said Katie Seminara, assistant manager of OH WOW! “Our planning team looks forward to the opportunity to showcase the many organizations, institutions, and individuals working to generate excitement in STEM education for learners of all ages in our region.”

Events are designated family, teen, and/or adult, and will cover vaious STEM related topics. Participants can learn about composting one day or see how the Butler Institute of American Art is using technology in art the next. In addition, attendees can discover the 3D printing process, try out being a YSU STEM student for a day, and explore Larva Lithography at Silly Science Sunday.

“This festival offers events and exhibits for everyone,” said festival committee member Alexa Sweeney-Blackann. “We are fortunate that our community can offer a full week of STEM events, and we hope families and individuals take advantage of this unique cultural experience.”
