McNally appoints YSU staffer to downtown Youngstown events position

Youngstown Mayor John A. McNally has appointed the evening operations manager of YSU’s Kilcawley Center to the position of Coordinator of Downtown Events and Citywide Special Projects.

Michael McGiffin will be paid an annual salary of $41,124. He has worked in events planning and management for five years at YSU and has coordinated public events on and off campus.

A volunteer review committee, which was appointed by McNally, recommended McGiffin for the position. The committee consisted of Annie Gillam, First Ward Councilwoman; Richard Schiaraldi, chairman, Youngstown Business Incubator; Jeff Kurz, a Youngstown attorney and downtown business owner; Jan Strasfeld, executive director of the Youngstown Foundation; and Scott Schulick, vice president/investments at Stifel Financial Corp. Schulick is also a former member of the YSU Board of Trustees.

McNally said he expects McGiffin to start full time with the city in late November after he concludes his current employment with YSU.
