Michael Crist, director of Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music, has been appointed to serve as interim dean of YSU’s College of Creative Arts and Communication.
Interim Provost Martin Abraham made the appointment, which takes effect Jan. 1. Crist will replace Dean Bryan DePoy, who has accepted an administrative position at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio.
“Dr. Crist is a talented and dynamic educator and administrator and has been a strong, positive force in maintaining the Dana School of Music’s well-deserved reputation for excellence,” Abraham said. “I’m confident that he will keep the College of Creative Arts and Communication moving forward with collaborative community partnerships and an exciting, relevant curriculum.”
Crist, also a professor of trombone, joined the Dana faculty in 1983. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from Ithaca College, a master’s degree in trombone performance from YSU and a PhD in music education from Kent State University.
“I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve as interim dean, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the CCAC faculty and staff,” Crist said.
