Murry OKs Missionary Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi as ‘Private Association of the Faithful’

Bishop George Murry, S.J. has issued a decree formally approving and establishing the Missionary Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi as a Private Association of the Faithful with the intention of developing as a Public Association of the Faithful and eventually a diocesan religious institute of sisters.

The primary apostolate of the Association is teaching, particularly assisting parents who “home school” in the faith formation, spirituality and education of their children.  The Sisters staff St. Joseph the Protector Learning Center, which is located at Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Vienna.  The Center offers a learning environment with some classes taught on site while others are offered online.

Murry will perform a liturgical ceremony at which he will read the decree and clothe the founder of the Missionary Sisters of St. Francis with the religious habit of a novice.  The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 at Queen of the Rosary Parish in Vienna.
