Youngstown CityScape will kick off Streetscape 2015, “Bloom or Bust!!,” at a breakfast press conference at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 20. It occurs at the D.D. Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks.
This 18th-annual event marks the beginning of Youngstown CityScape’s fundraising efforts and the annual Streetscape planting day on Saturday, May 30. Volunteers will beautify the downtown by removing debris, trimming, planting flowers and shrubs, and mulching planted areas. Focus areas include West and East Federal streets, City Hall, Wick Park, the hillside near Choffin Career Center, and various memorials in and near the downtown.
In addition, other groups and organizations will participate in beautification efforts throughout the city. Organizations include Youngstown State University, Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Fifth Avenue Boulevard Neighbors, Mercy Health, 7th Ward Citizens’ Coalition, Neighborhood Improvement Corps, North Side Interfaith Partnership, Mahoning Commons and the Wick Park Neighborhood Association.
Streetscape 2015 is a visual improvement project of Youngstown CityScape, a non-profit organization whose mission is to revitalize downtown Youngstown and gateways through beautification, education and preservation.
